State to implement Intellectual Property Management System

MIRI: Sarawak will be the first in the country to implement the Intellectual Property Management System (IPMS) for government agencies from next year.

Intellectual property executive officer Steward Sayong from the Chief Minister’s Department “ said although awareness on intellectual property is still low, this will not restrict the implementation of IPMS.

“Sarawak is the only state that will implement the intellectual property working plan involving all government agencies especially in management, reporting and etc,” he told The Borneo Post yesterday at a seminar to educate civil servants on the IPMS working plan here yesterday.

“We are aware the subject matter is still new and the understanding of the government agencies on IPMS is still low, therefore, we have taken the initiative to host seminars.”

IPMS will be administered by the Sarawak Information Technology and Resource Centre (SITRC).

“The state government provides a portal, which will be a platform for the State Service Modernisation Unit (UPPN) and government agencies in managing intellectual property,” said Steward.

He explained that intellectual property included new technology innovations, ideas and media productions.

Some 60 participants from here, Bintulu, Limbang and Lawas are participating in the two-day seminar.
